New Work: BNE
Earlier this year, I worked with the BNE Duty Free store to capture imagery for their website. This shoot had a bit of a twist. Normally, my process involves clients sending me the products they want photographed, and I handle the shoot in my studio. However, that wasn't possible for BNE. Since they’re located in the international airport’s duty-free zone, we couldn’t easily move their stock in and out. This meant we had to go into the airport to shoot.
It's not every day that you have to pack up your studio equipment, props, and backdrops and head into international airspace for a photoshoot. This required a lot of extra prep time to ensure we had everything needed to shoot and style the products. With only two days to capture all the content, I needed to develop a concept that was striking yet required minimal styling props and materials.
In the end, we decided on a clean, minimal style, shooting the alcohol products against a white backdrop with hard light and styled with drink and ingredient props. This approach also allowed me the flexibility to create additional content later, such as repeat pattern images, so we wouldn’t need to return to the airport anytime soon. We managed to pull it all off on day one. Although it was a long day, we were thrilled with what we achieved.
On day two, we returned to shoot other product categories, including beauty, perfume, homewares, and skincare. For these shots, we wanted to incorporate more styling to add diversity to the images. With more styling came more time, so day two moved a bit slower, but we captured some truly stunning shots.
